  • Board recognized Lake Havasu Unified bus driver Robert Ogden. When a school bus caught fire recently, Mr. Ogden made sure all students exited safely, and then he put out the fire. The board gave Mr. Ogden a certificate of appreciation, which he said he accepts on behalf of all the district bus drivers.
  • Plans for Daytona site.
    Architect Gerald Clark explains proposed changes that will be made to the old Daytona Middle School campus before it becomes an Arizona State University campus.
  • Board heard a presentation from architect Gerald Clark and landscape architect Mychal Gorden on how the old Daytona Middle School site will be renovated before Arizona State University moves in.  Clark showed drawings of what the campus could look like. He said A.S.U. plans include 200 to 300 new trees planted on the site as well as addressing accessibility issues caused by the natural incline of the location. Clark said, "When you see what we are going to produce as a campus, I think everybody is going to be proud." He explained that the Havasu Foundation for Higher Education, A.S.U., Lake Havasu Unified, and Lake Havasu City are all watching the project and will make sure no mistakes are made.

  • Board approved the purchase of equipment for upgrades to the Thunderbolt Middle School cafeteria at an amount not to exceed $42,000. In July, 2011, the Arizona Department of Education notified LHUSD that according to statute, a school district may not have more than three months working capital in its food service fund and asked for a plan from our district on how these excess funds would be spent.   • Superintendent Malay thanked the community for recent gifts and donations, including $1,500 given to Thunderbolt Middle School athletics by Troyer Urgent Care. Superintendent Malay also mentioned a $400 donation from Fayette A/C and Sheet Metal, $300 from NAPA Auto Parts, and $300 from Elks lodge #2399. These three donations were all for Lake Havasu High School Athletics. In addition, the Local Golden K Kiwanis organization gave $500 to each of our elementary schools. This last donation was too recent to be included on the monthly gifts and donations report given to the school board. More...
