Special Board Meeting 4/5/2011 (Agenda | Video | PowerPoint)
The Lake Havasu Unified School District Governing Board held a special session on April 5 to hear an update on the proposed Lake Havasu High School solar project. The project would install solar panels on the high school site to provide cost effective electricity for the campus. The panels would be mounted on shade structures erected over school parking areas.
During the meeting, Lake Havasu Unified Director of Business Services Missy Wood said, "(The project) is a little different from what we originally thought, but I still think it is a good budget." The three governing board members present for the meeting (Jo Navaretta, Ross Hobday, and Pat Rooney) all voted to move ahead with the plan as presented. Afterward, Wood said the project was now a go as long as the cost of materials did not increase by an "exorbitant amount" before the binding contracts were signed. If the remaining steps are accomplished on schedule, construction could start this June.
An APS Energy Services representative who is working on the project said there were still "off ramps" available so the district could bow out of the project if last minute market changes made it too expensive.
