SPECIAL EVENTSA Veteran's Day to Remember Nautilus Elementary School staff and students, with the help of the Marine Corps League, had a special Veteran's Day event this year. Nautilus students gathered in the school gym to watch the Marine Corps League present the colors. Sixth grade students Calvin, Kaitlyn, and Savannah read essays they had written about veterans and military service. Calvin thanked each veteran, "for being our hero." Fifth grade student Lauren sang "America the Beautiful," and staff member Susan Doyle sang "God Bless America." Active duty Marine Lance Corporal Chad Hertz, the son of Nautilus teacher Jana Hertz, answered student's questions about military service. Lance Corporal Hertz was striking in his Marine Corps dress blue uniform. U.S. Army Private First Class Justin Borquez, the cousin of a Nautilus student, also attended the special Veteran's Day event. PFC Borquez wore his battle dress uniform (BDUs or camo). Thanks to these soldiers and Marine Corps League Detachment 757 for making this a memorable day for Nautilus students. Click a picture for a larger view.
