Curriculum
means different things to different people.
The differences are based on instructional plans as the
means
and learner outcomes as the ends.
Curriculum describes what is to be learned, whereas
instruction is the process by which it is taught to students.
The role of curriculum is illustrated in the following
journey metaphor:
"Curriculum
is the road map on the journey of learning, showing the route
to take, the stops to make along the way, the things to see,
and the distances between places. Standards are the major
cities along the route while benchmarks are the points leading
to those major cities through which the highway of learning
must pass."
